Here’s Why We Think Prajakta Koli Is Going to Be The Next Big Thing

Prajakta Koli, better known as MostlySane, is the person everyone wants to befriend. Spirited, chirpy and hilarious, this Mumbai girl is all poised to make her silver screen debut with Dharma Productions’ ‘JugJugg Jeeyo’ which hits cinemas on June 24. Here’s all we know about the famous YouTube content creator who has won a Daytime Emmy.

When she was in school, Koli decided on radio jockey as a career choice and even joined Fever 104 as an intern during college in 2011. After working there for a year, the rose tinted glasses came off when her first show ‘Call Centre’ flopped. After the debacle, Koli quit her job. However, it was during this internship that she met Sudeep Lahiri, now VP Content and Strategies at One Digital Entertainment, who was impressed by her ideas and energy. He suggested that she give YouTube a shot and in 2015, her channel, MostlySane, went live. While most women content creators were focusing on beauty and fashion, Koli opted to go the comedy route. Today, MostlySane has approximately 6.68 million subscribers, making it the biggest Indian woman-run comedy channel.

Koli has used her channel to address several social issues. In 2016, on World Mental Health Day, she launched a campaign #IPledgeToBeMe and wrote a rap song ‘Shameless’, which addressed mental health and body shaming.

In 2018, Koli was an Indian representative for the YouTube Creators for Change program. Her video ‘No Offence’, which deals with subjects such as bigotry, xenophobia, sexism and homophobia, was shown at the United Nations as part of this program.

Koli is also part of the ‘Creators of Change’ (2020) documentary in which she joins Michelle Obama and two other YouTube content creators, Liza Koshy and Thembe Mahlaba to discuss education for young girls. In 2021, Koli won a Daytime Emmy for this documentary.

On the acting front, Koli featured in The Viral Fever’s ‘PA Girls’ in 2017 and went on to play the female lead in Netflix’s romantic comedy series ‘Mismatched’ in 2020. We can’t wait to see what she does next.
