This Tamil romantic film starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha revolves around two high school sweethearts from the batch of 1996 who meet at a reunion 22 after they had parted and reminisce on their love.
2. Me Before You
Emilia Clarke plays a happy and outgoing girl from a small town who takes up a job to take care of a recently-paralyzed and bitter man. The two of them form an unlikely bond which helps them both live life to the fullest.
3. Oh My Kadavule
This Tamil romantic fantasy film starring Ashok Selvan and Ritika Singh marked Ashwath Marimuthu’s directorial debut. The film revolves around two best friends who get married and realize that it’s not happily ever after for them. They go through various incidents together and apart before deciding if they should get a divorce.
4. Majili
After a failed relationship Poorna turns to alcohol to drown his sorrows and gives up on his cricket career. He is soon forced to get married to a woman he doesn’t love but, things take a drastic turn when he starts training his ex-lover’s daughter in cricket. In the process, he discovers his feeling towards his wife and her unrequited love for him.
5. Bareilly Ki Barfi
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon, and Rajkummar Rao, this romantic comedy is set in the small town of Bareilly. We meet Bitti a free-spirited girl who refuses to be pressured into getting married. Her life changes when she reads a book titled Bareilly Ki Barfi and decided to track down the author when she realizes that the protagonist of the book is exactly like her.
6. Lootera
Based on O. Henry’s short story The Last Lead, this film tells the story of a young conman posing as an archaeologist who falls in love with the daughter of a Bengali zamindar. However, he holds a dark secret that could separate them. This Vikramaditya Motwane film stars Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh in lead roles.
7. Varane Avashyamund
This Malayalam film revolves around a single mother Neena (Shobhana) and her daughter Nikitha (Kalyani Priyadarshan) who is obsessed with the concept of arranged marriage. Their lives change when they interact with their next-door neighbours – a retired army man (Suresh Gopi) and another young man named Bibeesh (Dulquer Salmaan).
8. Kedarnath
This inter-faith love story is between a wealthy Hindu Brahmin girl (Sara Ali Khan) whose family owns a lodge near the Kedarnath Temple and a Muslim boy (Sushant Singh Rajput) who is a pithoo (porter) working in the same area. Their love is put to the test as they face many obstacles including the disapproval of their family and society. But, that’s not all. When their area suddenly floods up due to heavy rain they must now survive against all odds to be together.
9. The Fault In Our Stars
Based on a novel by John Green, this film follows two teenagers Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) and Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort) who are both cancer patients. We witness them dealing with various struggles together and fall in love with each other.
10. Manmarziyaan
This film follows a love triangle between a young woman named Rumi (Taapsee Panu), her outgoing but commitment-phobic boyfriend Vicky (Vicky Kaushal) and her mature and responsible fiance Robbie (Abishek Bachchan).
