Minions: Film Review – Go bananas!

The tiny tic-tac shaped yellow heartthrobs are back! This time with a movie of their own. Packed with many gags and gadgets, the Minions movie is an absolute joyride for people of all ages, shapes and sizes.

The movie takes us back in time to when the minions were small ‘tadpole-ish’ creatures swimming deep under the ocean, in search of the most evil master. The minions evolved with the evolution of earth, but their search continues. From a stone-sucking numbskull early human to Napoleon Bonaparte, they served all and killed all (which, of course, was unintentional). Finally, they reached New York in search of baddies. From New York, they embark on a crazy road trip to Orlando to attend the Villain Con with a lively villain family! And then comes Scarlett Overkill.

Narrated by Geoffrey Rush, Minions starts on a promising note. The Minions’ crazy antics will fascinate the kids and keep them glued to their seat till the credits. However, the same can’t be said about the adults. Yes, it’s entertaining and fun to watch the Minions on screen. They will make you laugh and go ‘aww’. But there’s very less in store if you’re looking for puns amidst the comedic chaos.

Sandra Bullock voices the character of Scarlett Overkill. Though she tries hard, the zeal is missing. The zeal of an evil villain. Herb Overkill, Scarlett’s husband, is fun to watch. Brownie points for Jon Hamm. Pierre Coffin is superbly well-versed in Minionese. No doubt about that. Besides the Minions, we have another winner here – The Nelson family. Both Michael Keaton and Allison Janney do a superb job. A film on the Nelson family? We are totally in!

Overall, Minions will not disappoint. But it does not leave a lasting impression. You will laugh, learn few new Minionese words, go home and maybe forget all about it.

Huh, despicable me?

Why should you watch this film?
The kids will love it! So will you. The Minions are adorable little bundles of sunshine. Having a bad, bad day? The Minions will cheer you up! Don’t miss this cute animation.
