Here’s What We Thought Of Tom Holland & Daisy Ridley’s ‘Chaos Walking’

This sci-fi action film is based on a trilogy by Patrick Ness with the same name. This film is an adaption of the first book titled The Knife of Never Letting Go. Starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland in the lead roles, this film is set in a dystopian future called the New World. The tricky thing about this planet is that it has interfered with the brain of all men causing all their thoughts to be on display for all. Referred to as ‘The Noise’, this phenomenon affects only the men and not the women. Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) is a young lad from Prentisstown, a town with no women. When Tom discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a girl who has crashed into the New World from space, he freaks out cause he has never seen a girl before in his life. Soon he realizes that he needs to protect her and the two of them set out on a journey to help her find the equipment to contact her spaceship and warn them about The Noise.

‘The Noise’ and acting make things better!

The premise of Chaos Walking is very interesting and unique. The swirly effects of the noise that often transform into images that show you glimpses about the past is pretty cool and it makes you intrigued, to say the least. The other part that makes the film more likeable is Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley. They play their characters with great conviction and carry the weight of the film as best as they can. It’s particularly nice to see Tom Holland’s go through various emotions. From wanting to be “a man” to being vulnerable and awkward, he does it all and it’s very endearing.

Backed up!

The film had a great ensemble cast playing supporting roles. Mads Mikkelsen played the role the Mayor of Prentisstown, the town Todd is from. You can tell from the get-go that this is a man hiding a ton of dark secrets and Mikkelsen plays the part very well. His son played by Nick Jonas is the typical pick of the future. We also have David Oyelowo plays preacher of Prentisstown that is so conflicted that it makes him eviler by the minute.

It could have been better…

Like we mentioned the plot of this film is so interesting and unique but the film fell short in the second half where the story not only get predictable but seems to be hanging by a loose thread. It would have been nice to see a more wholesome development of the characters and the storyline.

WATCH OR NOT:
Chaos is a nice one-time watch. This sci-fi film will make for a great weekend movie plan. Also, you get to see Tom Holland’s thoughts on display, so that’s a win.
