Star Trek Beyond: Film Review: Live Long And Prosper

Verdict: An amazing homage to the original and beyond.

Space is the final frontier. A forty-nine-year-old TV franchise that has been converted into an animated series and rebooted numerous times has released its 13th movie in the third installment of the rebooted franchise – Star Trek Beyond. The Universe is said to be continuously expanding. How do you explore something that is continuously growing and what can be achieved by these explorations. Contemplating these questions we see Captain James T Kirk walking through the halls of the Enterprise. We had last seen them embarking on a five-year exploratory mission and the crew is into their third year now.
Star Trek - BookMyShowA distress call leads the Enterprise commanded by Captain James (Chris Pine) along with his crew Commander Spock (Zachary Quinto), Lieutenant Commander Leonard McCoy (Karl Urban), Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Montgomery Scott (Simon Pegg), Hikaru Sulu (John Cho) and Pavel Chekov (Anton Yelchin) to an earth-like-topographical planet on the other side of the Nebula. Once they reach the planet, they are attacked and that leads them to split up and rescue the rest of the crew which is captured by Krall (Idris Elba), a lizard-like villain who wants a part of the weapon, which is aboard the Enterprise.
Directed by Justin Lin, this film is all you can hope for in a Star Trek movie. There are your favorite jargons like beam me up, warp speed and phase which will make your inner fan go "oh yeah"! There is the bantering between the taking-things-literally Spock and Lenoard, which shows a new bromance in the making. We have the Captain doing dangerous feats for his crew. There is also the romance between Spock and Uhura. The story is penned by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. The dialogues are witty with lots of references to the original source material, which if you get, will leave you grinning. Simon Pegg, who is a fan of the original series, has decided to stick with the original show format giving it an extra-long episodic feel and a climax that will leave you wanting for more. The previous movies were heavily criticized for its lack of connection to the original source material and the writers have more than made up for it. Director Justin Lin (Fast and Furious series) has added his special touches here and there, which is very apparent. The visuals are very appealing and they make you feel the thrill of space exploration. The movie also acknowledges the loss of Leonard Nimoy and Anton.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

Fans of the franchise, this is how your fan fiction looks on screen. This is a wholesome fan experience with a simple but an enchanting storyline. For the newbies (who have not seen a single movie of the franchise), watch this as an independent space-travel movie and you won’t complain. Get your shields up and boldly go where no man has gone before.
