Star Wars: The Last Jedi Film Review – The Force Is Strong With This One

Verdict: The best of the franchise, the movie is.

If you are a Star Wars fan you should skip to the end and book your tickets right away. If you are not, we are here to convince you why this is probably the greatest Star Wars movie ever. This tale of a galaxy far far away began about 40 years ago when we met the Empire and the Rebels with cool lightsabers and their command over the Force. People like us who haven’t grown up watching Star Wars (born at the wrong time), could not understand the hype when Star Wars: The Force Awakens released. It was surreal to see people in the 30’s and 40’s gushing over Luke Skywalker’s entry. But once you see the movie, you understand the hype is real. Now, two years later and eight movies wiser, we were equally excited for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

What’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi About:

If you want to enjoy an amazing experience when you watch the movie, you should probably skip this part. For the others here it goes. The movie picks up at the same moment where the last one ended. But before you could meet Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), we see that the people of Resistance are evacuating from their hideouts because the First Order is on their tail. Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is providing the distraction while they successfully evacuate the planet. Elsewhere, Rey (Daisy Ridleyhas met Luke and is training under him to take out the First Order while also trying to convince him to come back and join the Resistance.

What Works:

Rian Johnson, who has written and directed the movie, joins the likes of Patty Jenkins, James Mangold, and Taika Waititi as he joins this franchise and completely revamps it. He has been heeding the fan criticism from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While people might think that this movie would follow a similar pattern as that of The Empire Strikes Back, but it doesn’t. Being a huge fan himself, he has used the right things to invoke nostalgia while giving us plenty new to think about. As we have seen this year, there is something epic brewing when a franchise gets a fresh set of directors.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has arcs and sub-character arcs which are wonderfully fleshed out and don’t interfere with each other. What we loved about the movie is that although it is the longest Star Wars movie, there was not a single dull moment. We traveled across the galaxy at light speed. Saw some amazing new creatures (Porgs are the best). Millenium Falcon flew again. The Lightsabre duels were probably the best since the one between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul.
It is a pleasure to see Mark Hamill after almost 40 years as Luke Skywalker. It is bittersweet to see Carrie Fisher on screen and this will probably be the last time we see her. Daisy Ridley is at her best as the apt pupil who is trying to find her place. Adam Driver as Ben Solo/Kylo Ren is at his best. Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico is a very welcome addition to the franchise.

What could have been better:

As a fan who had her mouth gaping open throughout the movie, there was nothing I would change except the absence of a Vadar-like villain. Although Kylo Ren is amazing, he is definitely no Vadar (General Snoke will agree with you).

Why you should watch this movie:

Star Wars: The Last Jedi stands strong as a standalone movie and is the perfect movie to connect the first one with the last. Rian Johnson impresses us with everything he has packed into one single movie. The cameos and the references to the old movies make it worth the while and after the movie, you can only wish for 2019 to come sooner. May the force be with you.

In the new season of The Viral Fever’s (TVF) college drama Girls Hostel, the medical versus dental wars continue between the girls. Zahira (Parul Gulati) and Jo (Srishti Shrivastava) still do not see eye-to-eye, while Richa (Ahsaas Channa) is still finding her footing with Aarav (Gagan Arora). The dental girls have been moved to a newer, smaller hostel where they’re facing a water crisis and other problems.
