Action Jackson: Film Review – A mindless action comedy!

Prabhu Deva is back with yet another power-packed action drama, this time starring Ajay Devgn. The film has everything; from romance and masala to gravity-defying action scenes and exhilarating dance sequences. But it doesn’t end there. If you thought that R… Rajkumar was brimming with one liners, you stand corrected! After all, Action Jackson features dialogues like ‘Pasand aaya toh dil main, nahi toh dimaag mein bhi nahi’ or ‘It’s my way ya sky way’.

Set in Mumbai, Pune and Bangkok, the film is about Vishi (Ajay Devgn), a contract hitman who makes a living through petty crimes. He comes across a girl, Khushi (Sonakshi Sinha), who is considered the queen of bad luck by her friends. However, she falls in love with Vishi when he turns out to be her lucky charm. But Vishi has different plans for life. The story then takes a significant twist when he comes across AJ! Who is AJ? What does he have to do with Vishi? This forms the crux of the film.

The story-line is predictable and loses its pace in the first ten minutes. The over-publicized action scenes featuring sword and fist-fights are disappointing and the cinematography gets worse with every scene. The songs are entertaining and add lustre to an otherwise bland script. The plot, however, totally defies logic and gravity. There are scenes with pani puri, toothpicks and even tomato sauce flying in the air, so you know what to expect! However, Prabhu Deva’s magical charm can be clearly seen in most of the dance sequences. The film features an ensemble cast and one of the songs also features a surprising cameo by the magnificent Shahid Kapoor!

Action Jackson entirely belongs to Ajay Devgn, who dons the hat of an action hero yet again after the grand success of Singham II. Though this film may not be counted as one of his best performances, his fight sequences are definitely worth a watch. On the other hand, Sonakshi Sinha looks breathtaking in the dance sequences. Yami Gautam and Kunal Roy Kapur also shine in their respective roles. The film introduces Manasvi Mamgai, former Miss India, who also makes her presence felt.

Why you should watch this film?

A must-watch for die-hard Ajay Devgn fans, Action Jackson has intense fight scenes and foot-tapping songs, but lacks logic! The film features a wonderful cast and a few one-liners that make up for the missing elements. Nevertheless, Action Jackson is full of mindless comedy and if you’re looking for a fun film this weekend, you can probably give this action drama a try!
