Aiyaary: Film Review – A Soldier Who Went Rogue For a Reason

Verdict: A typical Neeraj Pandey thriller.

Neeraj Pandey is known for his thriller movies and he has added another one to his list with Aiyaary. With a renown cast of stellar actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah, the movie has everyone excited for another gem from the director.

What Aiyaary's About:

The movie revolves around a young army officer gone rogue. Major Jai Bakshi (Siddharth Malhotra) who is a part of an undercover special force is put upon the duty of surveillance, during which he discovers a lot about the corrupt system that he is, unfortunately, a part of. His senior, Colonel Abhay Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) is an honest officer with a 100% record of success on his missions. Due to Jai, now the entire special force is under the radar. Both Abhay and Jai have a fallout because the former beliefs in the country's system and the latter doesn't have any.

What Works:

Neeraj Pandey is known to make thrillers that make you think and put your brains in the plot while watching the movie. This one is no different. Every moment you keep thinking about the next twist and turn that the characters might unfold. There is a long list of actors who make up the cast of the movie – Manoj Bajpayee, Siddharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet Singh, Pooja Chopra, Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Adil Hussain, Kumud Mishra, etc. and each with a significant role. While the lead actors get the story going, the supporting ones join the strings. The execution of the movie is well thought and executed.

Manoj Bajpayee is a stellar actor and he keeps stunning us with one performance after the other. Siddharth Malhotra not only looks good but also has a meaningful character that actually represents the youth of today. He has played the character well and kept the audience interested in the story. Rakul Preet Singh plays a beautiful hacker who also hacked into an army officer's heart, she did her part with ease. The movie scores well in performances.

The movie is rather slow-paced and emphasizes on details. The second half wraps faster than the first. The movie reminds you of A Wednesday!, Baby, Special 26 and all the other Neeraj Pandey movies that left a mark on the viewers.

What Could Have Been Better:

The movie runs for a long 2 hours 40 minutes which makes the film's pace slow sometimes. However, a strong emphasis on everything was also important for the script and hence the duration works both ways.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

The movie is one of its kind. A thriller that makes you feel good when you leave the theaters. Manoj Bajpayee fans need no reason to watch this one, he is marvelous at what he does. Siddharth Malhotra looks charming as ever and everything goes as you expect from a Neeraj Pandey film. We highly recommend you to catch this one with your family.
