Munna Michael: Film Review – Tiger is a Dancing Machine!

Verdict: The commercial masala we have been craving this whole year!

Director Sabbir Khan is back with his favorite boy Tiger and the duo is set to entertain the audience thoroughly with a lot of dance, action, and drama in their hat trick Munna Michael.

The film is about Munna (Tiger Shroff) who was dumped in the garbage box by his parents only to be found by Michael (Ronit Roy), a junior artist and dancer pro at classical, western and of course, MJ. Michael raises Munna like his own and Munna grows up to become a charming boy and a phenomenal dancer like his dad. Munna visits clubs all over Mumbai and bets a dance off with the club's dance champs which he, obviously, always wins. After winning against a guy who was apparently a big deal in Mumbai club scenes, Munna and troupe get banned from all the night clubs and hence Munna lands up in Delhi to continue his dancing and betting.

In Delhi, Munna meets Mahindar (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), a gangster, who asks him to teach him to dance in order to woo the love of his life, Dolly (Nidhhi Agerwal). Mahindar takes Munna to a night club to show him who Dolly is and Munna falls in love at first sight. Mahindar leaves no stone unturned to make Dolly fall in love with him but she runs away when his brother (Pankaj Tripathy) misbehaves with her.

Rest is the story of a lover and a dancer who just wants to prove that Michael lives forever.

Munna Michael is Tiger's fourth movie right from Heropanti and he is not the newcomer we saw a few years back. He has improved and how! We know that Tiger's action and dance joined through a string of a storyline is enough to entertain the audience, however, this movie is different. The strings are joined by a rebel love story with a touch of retro. It has a tinge of Akshay's action, Govinda's mischief, Salman's jugaad and Jackie's good looks. Junior Shroff has given his best performance till date and it proves that he is here to stay as he dances smoothly to the tunes of Michael Jackson.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has always proved his mettle when it comes to acting but this movie has shed light on a different side of him. He can beat goons like a commercial hero and he can DANCE as well. Undoubtedly, it took a lot of practice for a non-dancer like him to dance but he worked hard and you could see that in the film (must watch the credits for behind the scenes). He held the story on his shoulders and all the credit for a good climax goes to him. Pankaj Tripathi plays Mahindar's brother and has his good share of comic deliveries too.

The casting of Munna Michael has been carefully done as Niddhi Agerwal shows potential as a newcomer. She can act, she is pretty and she can dance. Ronit Roy as Munna's father was a great choice as not everyone can match the charm that Tiger's real father possesses. There are many cameos including Farah Khan, Shaan and Chitrangada Singh. Siddharth Nigam looks extraordinary in his half a minute camera presence. He is an example of puberty gone right, especially when we remember him from Dhoom 3.

Sabbir Khan has an eye for action and with Tiger, one can take those kinds of sequences to new levels. The director has taken his share of liberties in the movie. There are many scenes and instances that will take you to back to the retro style film making and you will reminisce the good old love stories and action drama. You'll never get bored.

The first half and the way they have set the plot is surprisingly good and with Tiger at the center, it gets your adrenaline pumping. The second half stretches the story after a point but Nawazuddin never lets it tone down, with his presence.

There are so many songs (eight) in this film. Five of them are dance numbers if we exclude the rebirth and redux ones. (If you are looking for a family performance at some party, this movie serves you with everything.) Meet Bros have done a fab job with Shake Karaan and Mika has killed it in Swag. And the choreography! Ganesh Acharya is the man behind the magic that Tiger has been showing onscreen. On that note, GA has got a new avatar too (check the making in the credits and Google him).

To sum it up, this is Tiger's best so far. And yes, Michael lives forever!

Why You Should Watch This Movie:
Tiger fans, watch it for Tiger. If you are the Bollywood junkie who has been missing the good ol' Bollywood-style masala movie, this movie will give you a relief and the much-required dose of entertainment. It has all the action, dance and drama you need to make your day. Do yourself a favor, book Munna Michael this weekend.
