Golmaal Again: Film Review – Same Madness Different Story

Verdict: A typical Rohit Shetty entertainer that requires you to forget logic.

Rohit Shetty is back with his most famous and loved franchise Golmaal. This movie not only marks 10 years of the Golmaal series but also is Shetty's 10th movie with Ajay Devgn. Right from the very beginning, Golmaal Again asked us to forget logic and if you do so this movie will actually entertain you.

What's Golmaal Again About:

The film revolves around five orphans – Gopal (Ajay Devgn), Madhav (Arshad Warsi), Lakshman (Shreyas Talpade), Lakshman (Kunal Kemmu) and Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor). When they were younger, they all used to all live in an orphanage in Ooty. One day they find a baby girl outside the gate of the orphanage who they love like their own. All five of them are divided into two groups – Gopal and lispy Lakshman on one side and the rest on the other. Their disputes often would lead to fights and one day all five of them leave the orphanage due to one of their fights. 25 years later, they hear that the owner of the orphanage has passed away. They visit Ooty to attend his funeral where a ghost awaited them.

What works:

The characters of Golmaal is the USP of the movie and the director. Not only the leads but also the characters played by Sanjay Mishra, Vrajesh Hirjee, Ashwini Kalsekar, Johnny Lever, Mukesh Tiwari and other also make you laugh with their quirks. All the characters from the previous movie have been retained and they are even funnier. There were a few new entries as well, the most prominent being Tabu and Parineeti Chopra but it didn't feel like they were new in the cast. The characters are detailed and every detail will crack you up.

This time, Rohit Shetty has moved on from flying cars to focussing on the story, which you'll consider a positive change after watching the movie. He is known for creating stunning frames and he has delivered what he is known for. The locations are too beautiful to be real. The movie has a story that asks you to keep your brains aside and enjoy the magic of storytelling. If you do so, the movie is colorful and bright enough to turn your mundane day into an entertaining one.

What could have been better:

For those who watch Shetty's movies because of the flying cars and action, are going to be a bit disappointed because this movie focusses more on the heart touching story. But don't worry because the first half is definitely dedicated to your adrenaline rush. The first half of the movie is great but the second half is a bit predictable but since you are to only follow the magic (not logic), that shouldn't be a problem.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

If you are Golmaal fan, you are going to get entertained thoroughly. Ajay Devgn fans, Rohit Shetty fans, Parineeti Chopra fans, Kunal Kemmu fans, actually the entire cast's fan base, be ready for 151 minutes of fun. Rohit Shetty has gone rogue and if you follow his advice for this no-brainer it will cast its spell on you. All the characters have taken the Golmaal fever to a whole new level and we recommend you to watch once this weekend with your family.
