Kiara Advani is proving her acting mettle time and again with dramatic movies like Guilty and Kabir Singh and comedy movies like Good Newwz. She has an amazing sense of comic timing and she proves that yet again with Indoo Ki Jawani. Indira Gupta aka Indoo (Kiara Advani) is one of the most beautiful girls in Ghaziabad. She aspires to be an air hostess probably to fly away from the lecherous gaze of every man in her colony. Her best friend is Sonal (Mallika Dua) who probably knows more about life than even Google. After Indoo’s boyfriend cheats on her, Sonal suggests that she get on a dating app. Indoo gets on a dating app and matches with Samar (Aditya Seal) who is from Hyderabad, Pakistan. While their date is in progress, there are also two terrorists on the prowl.
A limited cast and setting saves the day
Most of the movie takes place inside Indoo’s house and mostly we see the men and women who are her neighbours. This helps us get involved with the characters more and leaves all the heavy lifting on Kiara Advani and Aditya Seal. There are jokes about classic Bollywood movies and a few India vs Pakistan tiffs especially involving cricket. The story might be predictable but it is the dialogues and the cast that save the day.
Kiara Advani deserves more roles like this
Kiara Advani is an actress who has done movies like Guilty where she was the focus and even movies like Laxmii where her role was minimal. After watching Indoo ki Jawani, you will feel she needs more roles that let her be in the limelight. Even Aditya Seal manages to grab our attention as Samar who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. While the start of the movie may seem slow, the movie picks up in the second half.
However, there’s such a thing as too many concepts
While the actors do a fine job, the writers have tried to jam too many concepts in a movie. The movie jumps from a girl’s struggle trying to navigate through lecherous men around her to an India vs Pakistan fight that doesn’t really go anywhere. There is also the idea of terrorism that just seems extra in a movie like this.
WATCH OR NOT:
If you are a Kiara Advani fan and are looking forward to watching something lighthearted this weekend, Indoo Ki Jawani makes for a decent afternoon watch.
