Lekar Hum Deewana Dil: Film Review – A story of love, friendship and disillusionment

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is the story of two best friends, Dinesh "Dino" Nigam (Armaan Jain) and Karishma Shetty (Deeksha Seth). The duo, who are inseparable, are the talk of the college.

Their friendship takes a drastic turn when Karishma’s parents decide that it’s time for her to get married. With her engagement merely days away, Dino and Karishma figure that the best way to avoid it is to run away together. However, as the 20 year-olds make their way from Goa and Nagpur to Raipur and beyond, they realize that life isn’t a day at the beach. What happens when they realize their naiveté, forms the rest of the plot.

The soundtrack, composed by A. R. Rahman is the highlight of the film. It features bangers like Khalifa and Mawwali Qawwali, which are bound to be played everywhere. To balance them out, the film also has songs like Tu Shining, which have a different (but equally notable) tone.

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil marks the debut of Armaan Jain and Deeksha Seth. The two share a chemistry that makes an otherwise-boring film watchable. Both the young stars show talent, which feels criminally-underutilized in this movie.

What keeps the movie from being truly interesting is the viewers’ constant feeling of deja vu. This movie tells the same story that hundreds (if not more) rom-coms and dramas have told already. Certain arcs in Lekar Hum Deewana Dil feel like they’ve been lifted straight out of films like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Wake Up Sid and What Happens In Vegas.

Though the film has the potential to be truly entertaining, it seems to lack the charm that could elevate it to another level. The film also dwells on certain sub-plots longer than required.

Why should you watch this film?
Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is a film best enjoyed with someone special. You might find yourself relating to more than just a few of the incidents in the film. Though it’s certainly not a film worth writing home about, the film might make for a good one-time watch on a lazy Sunday.
