In 2008, the Aarushi Talwar murder case caught everyone’s attention. The media had a field day while the police were under pressure to nail the guilty. Talvar is the second film this year that’s based on the case, the first being Rahasya.
The film begins with the outgoing police commissioner coaxing his subordinate, Ashwin (Irrfan Khan) to handle the Shruti Tandon (Ayesha Parveen) murder case. Even though he is reluctant to do so, the case is forced upon him. The story moves to flashback mode where the prime accused are Shruti’s parents, Ramesh (Neeraj Kabi) and Nutan (Konkona Sen Sharma). After thorough investigations, what seemed like an open and shut case becomes a complex issue for the cops. The movie also shows us the working of the police force and how things are mishandled.
Talvar’s biggest strength the is the screenplay, which keeps you hooked to the screen. The performances are another highlight. Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma have little to prove as brilliant actors, but they never fail to surpass expectations. The supporting cast is top notch too. Neeraj Kabi and Sohum Shah deserve a special mention. Director Meghna Gulzar can finally be forgiven for giving us Filhaal and Just Married.
Talvar has everything going for it. The plot is watertight, performances are excellent and there are no songs to slow the movie down. Few films based on reallife incidents turn out to be as good as Talvar and this one will definitely be counted among the best Hindi films this year.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
The film has an engaging plot and is backed with superb performances. If you are planning to catch a film during this long weekend then Talvar should be your first choice.
