Verdict: You cannot afford to miss Vidya Balan's housewife avatar.

Vidya Balan carrying a movie on her own shoulders in no surprise to us anymore. But a next-door housewife becoming a sultry radio jockey is! Playing the role of an enthusiastic homemaker who is up for every thrill, Vidya is going to take you on an entertaining roller coaster ride while she serves you this slice-of-life film called Tumhari Sulu.

What's Tumhari Sulu About:

Tumhari Sulu revolves around Sulochana – an average middle-class housewife – and her family. She is full of energy and keeps looking for a little entertainment in her daily routine. She has a loving husband (Manav Kaul) who supports her random ideas and loves her a lot, a son who admires her and has a sense of business like his mother, and twin elder sisters who are more accomplished and never fail to remind her of the same. Sulochana believes in herself and her hunger of doing something new lands her at a radio station, where she gets the job of a radio jockey for a late-night show. Her routine changes drastically, inviting a lot of new challenges.

What Works:

The movie depicts the daily life of a family living in suburban Mumbai, their daily challenges, pain, struggles, and joys. Debutant director Suresh Triveni has handled the film with realism and the story is highly relatable. Vidya Balan is undoubtedly the hero of the movie. The character seems to have been written for her. Sulu, despite many let downs, never lets anything affect her optimism. Her infectious energy will make you celebrate her transition from a housewife to an RJ. The character has just the right amount of bubbliness and only Vidya Balan can play this role with zero errors.

Meanwhile, Manav Kaul as the supportive husband shines, as he shows different emotions with ease. Neha Dhupia as a Sulu's boss and the champion of a leading radio station is vivacious. All the characters have their own quirks and add to the entertainment quotient of the movie, be it Sulu's 11-year-old son or her show producer (played by the talented Vijay Maurya) who is never quite impressed with her.

The first half of the movie sets up a sweet story of 'Sulu the Housewife' in a nice pace and the second half is more about her life turning upside down. The film has moments and references that one can easily relate to, making it an easy watch and thoroughly enjoyable.

What Could Have Been Better:

The cast and crew have left no stone unturned to make the movie flawless. The initial part of second half may feel a little dragged, but it wraps up rather fast towards the end.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

Vidya Balan as Sulu is lovable and relatable. Her fans need no reason to miss this. The movie is like a fresh breeze in the chaos of commercial films in Bollywood and gives you just the right amount of entertainment and drama. It is fun, delightful and heartwarming. We highly recommend you to watch this movie with your family.
