Veere Di Wedding: Film Review – More Than Your Typical Chick Flick
Verdict: A must-watch for everyone with their own veeres.
Once you start watching Veere Di Wedding, you will realize that it is more than just a chick flick. It is a tale of friendships. It is a story of four friends who are as different as they can be and yet are there for each other when trouble comes knocking. The friends played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Shikha Talsania, and Swara Bhasker are glam personified. The style queens of Bollywood come together for the first time on screen and they have set it on fire. The women are unapologetic and have very relatable problems ranging from commitment issues to dealing with trying to find the perfect one. The Kapoor sisters (Rhea and Sonam) have collaborated for the second time after Aisha and they are definitely upping their game.

What’s Veere di Wedding About:

Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Avni (Sonam Kapoor), Sakshi (Swara Bhasker), and Meera (Shikha Talsania) are friends since their school days. Kalindi’s wedding to Rishabh reunites the four Veeres.  Rishabh’s mom and dad want to spare no expense in the wedding and the number of rituals and functions seem to go higher and higher until something snaps. And then, all hell breaks loose.

What Works:

The movie seems to be pushing the envelopes on all fronts. The girls love to drink and swear and they are open about their sexual lives. Kalindi’s uncle is shown to be a homosexual and pre-marital sex is considered nothing but normal. This is a refreshing change from watching years of Bollywood movie heroines who were the purest of them all. Veere Di Wedding is not the first movie to show girls comfortable with their sexuality or any of the other topics, but it is the first that doesn’t make it the center point of the movie. The center point of the movie is about four friends in their mid-20’s trying to figure out their lives.
Shashanka Ghosh, who last directed Khoobsurat, has once again delivered a movie that is pleasing to watch. The flow of the story will keep you hooked to the screen and there will be a lot of moments where you will find yourself laughing out loud. The casting is on point as the four actresses share an amazing chemistry and will definitely make you think of your friends. Even the supporting characters are a treat to watch and there is no dull moment in the movie. Veere Di Wedding has everything you would want to see in a movie about four friends with varied characters. Kalindi is the commitmentphobe but for the sake of love, she goes ahead with the wedding. Avni is a successful divorce lawyer in Delhi who is looking for love on matrimonial websites. Sakshi is separated from her husband and spends her days and nights partying. Meera ran away from her home to get married and has now returned with her kid to add a Punjabi tadka to the mix.

What could have been better:

While each character’s arc was explored there was a little more focus on Kalindi’s character arc which even explained why she feared commitment. We would have loved to see a little more of others.

Why you should watch the movie:

Veeres mean friends and those are the people you need to drag to theatres to watch this movie. Each actor is at their best and there are a lot of moments that will put a smile on your face. If you are looking for something to transport you out of your daily life, this movie with its wonderful picturization of friendship is the one for you.

In the new season of The Viral Fever’s (TVF) college drama Girls Hostel, the medical versus dental wars continue between the girls. Zahira (Parul Gulati) and Jo (Srishti Shrivastava) still do not see eye-to-eye, while Richa (Ahsaas Channa) is still finding her footing with Aarav (Gagan Arora). The dental girls have been moved to a newer, smaller hostel where they’re facing a water crisis and other problems. This new season, unlike the first, focuses on more mature topics such as college politics, elections, eve teasing and more.
