Scare Is Rare But Manju Warrier Steals The Show In ‘Chathur Mukham’

The Malayalee film audience is familiar with horror films but techno-horror would be a new concept to experience. Chathur Mukham that falls under that category and easily keeps the audience hooked to the screen from the beginning till the very end. Starring Manju Warrier in the lead supported by Sunny Wayne and Alencier Ley among others, this film is a one-of-its-kind thriller fest and must be experienced on the big screen.

The story revolves around Tejaswini (Warrier), a happy-go-lucky girl who is addicted to her mobile phone. Her business partner Antony (Wayne), although slightly annoyed by her addiction, ignores it as she is reliable on the work front. One day, after Tejaswini loses her phone, she buys a new one from a local website. Everything after that goes haywire. Her life is entangled in a web of mystery that connects to her phone.

Manju Warrier nails this horror mystery

Manju Warrier has always been one of the best actresses in Malayalam cinema and her come-back has the masses look forward to more from her. Over the years, she has done some amazing roles and Tejaswini of Chathur Mukham would undoubtedly be one of the best in her entire career. Her helplessness, grit and the will to move forward has brilliantly been essayed by Manju and some scenes leave you awestruck. She nails this horror mystery with conviction.

Scare is rare

Although Chathur Mukham is categorized as a horror thriller, it does not scare but totally thrills you. There are only a few scenes that make you feel that the film is a horror mystery. It is indeed a good mystery thriller, but categorizing it as a horror thriller is way too ambitious.

Negative energy, but not a ghost

One of the best parts of Chathur Mukham is keeping its science as a priority rather than making it a typical ghost story. Although there is a back story behind the mystery, the makers tactically use the term ‘negative energy’ rather than calling it a ‘ghost story’.

Technically rich

Be it the cinematography, edits or the BGM, Chathur Mukham is quite well made. Firstly, K Abhayakumar and Anil Kurian’s script is solid and does not falter anywhere. Rajeet Kamala Sankar and Salil V have made a wonderful movie, almost flawless, from their script. Dawn Vincent’s BGM is haunting and it is quite interesting to notice that it has been used as the ringtone of the phone rather than filling it everywhere else. Abinandhan Ramanujam’s close-up shots are chilling and keep you hooked to the film. There are certainly logical loopholes but the way the film has been made and its capacity to keep the audience gripped makes them ignorable.

Chathur Mukham is a cinematic experience that must be enjoyed on the silver screen. With a tight plot, good performances and solid making, this film is totally going to sweep you over.
