‘Kaanekkaane’, starring Suraj Venjaramoodu, Tovino Thomas, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Shruti Ramachandran, is a noteworthy attempt to show the shades of human emotion. Directed by Manu Ashokan, who stole our hearts with his debut ‘Uyare’, the movie is a touching yet intense thriller.
‘Kaanekkaane’, which has just been released on SonyLIV, revolves around Paul (Suraj Venjaramoodu) who is still bereaved over the death of his daughter Sherin (Shruti Ramachandran) in a hit-and-run accident. When he visits his son-in-law Allen (Tovino Thomas), who lives with his new wife Sneha (Aishwarya Lekshmi) and son Kuttu, a year after the accident, he makes a startling discovery. Allen could be connected to Sherin’s death.
Suraj Venjaramoodu proves his mettle yet again
Suraj Venjaramoodu might have entered films as a comedian, but of late, he has been exploring complex characters. In the process, he has proved himself to be a fine actor. His character Paul Mathai in ‘Kaanekkaane’ is one of his best performances so far and in fact, it is the best thing about the film. He plays his part convincingly and manages to surprise you time and again.
Tovino Thomas and Aishwarya Lekshmi
The last time we saw them together in ‘Mayanadi’, Tovino Thomas and Aishwarya Lekshmi shared a chemistry that was unmatched. This time, they share a different vibe as a married couple. Their relationship is strained as one is living with guilt while the other is trying to fix the broken pieces.
A solid script
The team of Bobby-Sanjay has always delivered exceptional scripts. ‘Kaanekkaane’ is a solid story that starts out simply before spiralling into a complex portrait of the human condition.
