Love Action Drama: Film Review – Laughter Galore!

Verdict: A mix of comedy, romance and action is a bonus to this film’s entertainment quotient.

Love Action Drama is actor Dhyan Sreenivasan‘s directorial debut. The film is a romantic comedy starring Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara in the lead, supported by Aju Varghese, Dhanya Balakrishna, Mallika Sukumaran, Sreenivasan, Renji Panicker and many others. The film is produced by Aju Varghese and Visakh Subramaniam under the banner Funtastic Films and narrates the love story of Dinesh and Shoba and the problems they face in their relationship due to certain misunderstandings.

What’s Love Action Drama About:

Dinesh (Nivin Pauly) comes from a rich and reputed family. His mother (Mallika Sukumaran) despises his loafer ways and mostly ignores him so he finds support in his relative and childhood friend Sagar (Aju Varghese). Heartbroken over a cousin who is getting married to someone else, Dinesh takes Sagar’s help to create ruckus at the wedding. But there, he meets Shoba (Nayanthara), his cousin’s friend who has come down from Chennai to attend the wedding. A funny incident brings them closer and Dinesh, in an attempt to woo her, goes to Chennai. The couple spends time together and develops strong feelings for each other, but issues keep creeping into their relationship.

What Works:

The best part of Love Action Drama is its dialogue. Subtle and introspective, the dialogues make you laugh throughout the film. The next best thing is Nivin Pauly. It is refreshing to watch a fun, joyful and peppy Nivin on screen after a long time. His chemistry with Aju Varghese, as always, is excellent and they create some extremely humorous moments together. Nayanthara, meanwhile, sweeps you over with her charm. Mallika Sukumaran, even in her small role, is amazing. Additionally, there are quite a few cameo appearances that add spice to the movie.

In the technical department, Shaan Rahman’s music is another highlight. The Kudukku song rings inside your head for a long time because of its peppy tunes. The songs are mostly playing in the background, so they do not take up much of the screen time. With Love Action Drama, Dhyan Sreenivasan has made a strong debut and we could look forward to seeing more of his works in the future. It is quite amazing to see that he has used the names of one of his father’s best works for his lead actors, and subtly connect them with the theme of misunderstanding.

What Could’ve Been Better:

While the storyline is quite familiar, the director has made sure that this one has his own signature. Half of the dialogues are in Tamil, so people who do not know the language may find it difficult to follow the movie. There are also some illogical loopholes, but they get overshadowed by a very comical portrayal of characters.

Why You Should Watch:

Love Action Drama is an out-and-out entertainer with so many fun elements that would entertain almost anyone. It is enjoyable by the youth as well as family audiences, even though young adults might find it more relatable. There is an action sequence towards the end that even satisfies the stunt lovers. On the whole, Love Action Drama is a total entertainment package and shouldn’t be missed.
