The Malayalam film ‘Sunny’ starring Jayasurya is out on Amazon Prime Video. What makes the film unique is that Jayasurya performs solo. Actors Aju Varghese, Innocent, Siddique, Shivada, Vijayaraghavan, Mamta Mohandas and Vijay Babu provide voice overs. The film, directed by Ranjith Sankar, is Jayasurya’s 100th feature film and the seventh collaboration between the actor and director. The film revolves around a failed musician Sunny (Jayasurya) who smuggles himself from Dubai to Kochi after losing almost everything in his life. Hopeless, he goes into quarantine in a five-star hotel in the city and faces the struggles of being in a quarantine. The only connection he has with the outside world is through his phone. There are times when he loses hope and decides to succumb, but something or the other stops him.
A stellar solo performance
Jayasurya’s performance is so fantastic that you don’t miss a larger cast. He takes you with him on an emotional journey, from the depth of despair to hope. In short, Jayasurya proves yet again that he is phenomenal.

Ranjith Sankar has made deeply thoughtful films on various social issues over the years. ‘Sunny’ is a profound movie about the effect the pandemic has had on people, both economic and psychological.
Music is the backbone of ‘Sunny’
Aside from Jayasurya’s performance and the well written screenplay, the thing that stands out is the film’s score. Composed by Sanker Sharma, the score is both uplifting and soulful, adding drama to the slow-paced film.
