Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal: Film Review – Thrilling Yet Fun

Verdict: A proper entertainer with romance and thrill added in the right proportions.

Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaa is the 25th feature film of Dulquer Salmaan, the heartthrob down South. The movie, directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy, also features Ritu Varma opposite Dulquer, Rakshan, Niranjani Ahathian and Goutham Vasudev Menon in pivotal roles. It is co-produced by Anto Joseph under the banner Anto Joseph Film Company and Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

What’s Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal about:

Sidharth (Dulquer Salmaan) and Kaallis (Rakshan) are two happy-go-lucky boys, enjoying their lives to the fullest. They are no longer associated with their families and consider each other as home. One day, Sidharth comes across a girl and instantly falls in love with her. The girl Meera (Ritu Varma), an orphan, working as a beautician and staying with her chef friend Shreya (Niranjani Ahathian) eventually accepts his love and all four of them start hanging out. Though Sidharth and Kaallis claim to be engineers, they are scamsters, making loads of money scamming people through online shopping. ACP Prathap (Gautham Vasudev Menon) figures this scam and is in search of the people who are behind it. Meanwhile, Sidharth and Kaallis who are deeply in love with the girls, decide to leave everything behind and start a new life with them. All four of them move to Goa, unaware of the fact that the cope, under Prathap’s leadership, is behind them. When they finally get caught, the boys realize that the cops are not behind them for their scam, but for something else that shocks them.

What Works:

Dulquer Salmaan floors you with his style, charm and dialogue delivery. He, in fact, is in his most comfortable zone and delivers a neat performance. Ritu Varma is perfect as Meera. Rakshan entertains you with his wit and one-liners, being the perfect friend/partner for Dulquer. Niranjani also has done a good job. Gautham Menon steals the show with the cop role – his style, attitude and powerful performance is a highlight of the film. The visuals are stunning, thanks to KM Bhaskaran and his amazing cinematography skills. Music by Masala Coffee is peppy and keeps the vibe of the film intact. Harshavardhan Rameshwar’s background score also gels well with the film. Another thing that makes Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal an interesting watch is Desingh Periyasamy’s flawless writing and direction. He has neatly placed some very interesting twists in the plot. He has managed to pull off a decent show and has surely made an entertaining film.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The duration of the movie is longer for a romantic thriller. However, the audience may not feel it, as the film is quite entertaining. Though Gautham Menon has delivered a good performance, his role could have had longer screen time and prominence as well. The film also lacks a powerful antagonist and the climax is predictable too.

Why You Should Watch:

Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal is a clear entertainer with thrills, romance, and humor in the right proportion. It has some light, feel-good moments. Book your tickets now and enjoy this fun ride.
