Sindhubaadh: Film Review – Vijay Sethupathi Rocks This One

Verdict: This action mass entertainer is sure to impress audiences.

Sindhubaadh is an action thriller starring Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi, written and directed by SU Arun Kumar. The film is produced by S. N. Rajarajan and Shan Sutharsan under the production banners Vansan Movies and K Productions. The star cast also features Anjali, Surya Vijay Sethupathi, and Linga. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for the film while the cinematography is done by Vijay Kartik Kannan and editing by Anthony L. Ruben.

What’s Sindhubaadh About:

Thiru (Vijay Sethupathi) and his protégé Super (Surya Vijay Sethupathi) make a living out of pick-pocketing. Thiru has a hearing problem but his sidekick Super complements him. They lead an exciting life until one day Thiru meets Venba (Anjali) and instantly falls in love with her. He tries to woo her and eventually, she falls for his good-hearted nature. Venbu works in Malaysia on a contract basis and has to leave soon. Before she goes, she tells Thiru she will be back in two days for him. But what he receives is a frantic call from her saying that she will be taken to Thailand soon and there will be no way out thereafter. An anxious Thiru decides to go to Thailand with Super to save his lady love, but little does he know that adventure awaits him there. In Thailand, he has a close encounter with Gangster Ling (Linga) and his troupe. Whether he gets to escape from Ling’s trap, save Venba and go back home is further explored in the plot.

What Works:

Vijay Sethupathi is a rockstar and there is no doubt in it. He pulls off the role of Thiru with ease and does not fail to impress the audience. The character’s trouble in hearing and the sequences that focus on it sure bring some laughs. Surya Vijay Sethupathi has a confident debut and manages to portray his role well. Anjali is amazing on screen. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is a highlight, especially the foot-tapping track Rockstar Robber and his BGM for various themes including romance, comedy, and action gel amazingly well with the scenes. Vijay Kartik Kannan’s visuals are appealing as well. Director S U Arun Kumar has incorporated all the elements required for an action mass movie without fail.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The pace of the movie slows down towards the second half. Ling fails to evoke the fear of a character that he is portrayed to be. There are various logical loopholes in the film. The film also is filled with clichés that are common in action movies with a plot that is quite predictable. It entertains you nevertheless.

Why You Should Watch:

Sindhubaadh is for everyone who would love to watch Vijay Sethupathi as an action hero. The film has all the elements required in a good mass action entertainer – good music, visuals, romance, action, and thrills.
