90 ML: Film Review – A Decent Entertainer

Verdict: The fresh plot of 90 ML makes it an interesting watch.

Kartikeya Gummakonda shot to limelight with his debut movie RX 100, which was made under his home production banner ‘Kartikeya Creative Works’. After a couple of flops (Hippi, Guna 369), he made an impressive debut as an antagonist in Gang Leader. Now he is back in the protagonist’s role with 90 ML, which is again being produced by his home production. The film is written and directed by debutant Shekhar Reddy, while the music is composed by Anup Rubens and J. Yuvaraj has handled the cinematography. Also making her debut in Tollywood is the leading lady Neha Solanki. Let’s see if the RX 100 team continues its winning streak with 90 ML.

What’s 90 ML About:

Right from his childhood, Devadas (Kartikeya Gummakonda) has a rare alcohol syndrome disorder that makes him consume alcohol daily, or else he will die. With the situation he is in, he plans his life properly and pursues his career as a manager in a wine shop. Meanwhile, Suvasana (Neha Solanki) comes from a conservative family that is strictly against alcoholism. When things seem to be going smooth for Devadas, he falls in love with Suvasana. Although she starts liking him and eventually falls in love, things take a turn when she comes to know about Devadas’ habits. How Devadas deals with his alcohol disorder and wins back her love forms the rest of 90 ML.

What Works:

Kartikeya Gummakonda is at his element and has given an entertaining performance as a guy trapped between love and addiction. There is ease in his act and he has matured as a wonderful dancer at the early stage of his career. One can also notice a considerable improvement in his comedy timing while comparing his performance in his earlier films. Neha Solanki makes a decent debut as the love interest. Sudarshan, Adhurs Raghu, Roll Rida and Praveen have floored the audience with their comic act and Ravi Kishan’s hilarious villainy adds more entertainment.

Shekhar Reddy makes a decent debut as a director and his writing is fresh. Anup Rubens‘ music and background score hit the right chord. Cinematography by J. Yuvaraj is neat and the production values are decent.

What Could’ve Been Better:

While the plot is fresh, the editing and screenplay could have been much better and the runtime could have been put at check too.

Why You Should Watch:

90 ML is a decent entertainer with a novel storyline and has engaging moments throughout. Kartikeya makes a solid comeback and it is nice to see him attempt roles of different genres.
