Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo: Film Review – A Feel-Good Family Entertainer

Verdict: A perfect comeback film for Stylish Star Allu Arjun.

After a brief hiatus, Stylish Star Allu Arjun is back to entertain us with Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, directed by Guruji Trivikram Srinivas. The duo came together for the third time after their previous superhits Julai and S/O Satyamurthy. With a solid musical album backed by the chartbuster Samajavaragamana ruling the roost across the Telugu states, expectations have definitely skyrocketed. Let’s see if Bunny and Trivikram completes a solid hattrick with this flick.

What’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo About:

Valmiki (Murali Sharma) swaps his child with the baby of his millionaire boss, Ramachandra (Jayaram). A nurse at the hospital, who is the only witness to this incident, becomes comatose. Being a middle-class man, Valmiki raises his boss’ son, Bantu (Allu Arjun) like any other middle-class dad and ensures that he never goes back to his original dad. Ramachandra stays in a palace called Vaikunthapurram and his swapped son, Raj (Sushanth), struggles to look after their vast empire. After 20 years, Bantu comes to know about his original parents and enters the palace. How Bantu resolves all the issues that his original family is facing forms the rest of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.

What Works:

It is Allu Arjun’s show all the way. His performance as the middle-class guy and post-interval is top-notch. The board room comedy scene which involves him imitating all the other heroes is a major highlight. He is perfect in all the songs and Ramuloo Ramuloo stands out as the best among them in terms of energy levels. Pooja Hegde is an apt fit in the role of Amulya and her chemistry with Bunny works really well. It is nice to see Sushanth after a gap and Nivetha Pethuraj fits the bill as his love interest. Murali Sharma’s role is the best among the other characters. Samuthirakani, Tabu, Jayaram, Sunil, Sachin, Navdeep, Rohini and others played their part well.

Trivikram Srinivas writing and narration is top class and the way he stays loyal to the plot is praiseworthy. Thaman is the hero among the technical crew as this is the best album in his career. P. S. Vinod’s camera work is stylish and Navin Nooli’s editing work is crisp. The production design is lavish and one can’t get better than this for this plot.

What Could’ve Been Better:

Barring a few lags in the villain’s thread, there is nothing much that could have been better.

Why You Should Watch:

The movie is technically brilliant and rich in emotions. Allu Arjun’s wait is worth it and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo has all the ingredients of what it takes to be a super success. Like they say, form is temporary and class is permanent, it has Trivikram written all over.
