Ami Thumi: Film Review – A Complete Laugh Riot

Verdict: A decent comedy love entertainer.

Ami Thumi starring Adivi Sesh and Avasarala Srinivas in the lead roles is directed by Mohankrishna Indraganti. This is the first time that Adivi Sesh and Avasarala Srinivas have been in the lead pair. Mohankrishna, who has recently given a super hit with the film Gentleman for Nani is trying his hands at comedy genre again after Ashta Chamma and Bandipotu. Touted to be a romantic comedy, let’s see whether the team is able to impress the audience.

Thanikella Bharani has a son Vijay (Avasarala Srinivas) and a daughter Deepika (Eesha Rebba). Vijay and Maya (Aditi Myakal) love each other and want to get married. But their parents disagree as they have business rivalries. Deepika and Ananth (Adivi Sesh) love each other but Deepika’s father wants his daughter to get married to Sri Chilipi (Venella Kishore) who hails from a wealthy family in Visakhapatnam. Kumari (Madhumani) is a maid in Vijay’s house who is still looking to get married though she is at mid forties. The rest of the story is about who gets married to whom amidst mistaken identities and heavy dosages of comedy.

Ami Thumi - BookMyShowAdivi Sesh is charming as lover boy. Eesha is beautiful and both of them make a good pair in Ami Thumi. Avasarala Srinivas is fantastic and has excelled in comedy. Aditi Myakal has a decent debut and is very apt in her role. Venella Kishore steals the show with his amazing comic timing and is capable of making you laugh out loud. As a matter of fact, when he enters the scene, his screen presence is more impactful than the rest of the lead pair. Thanikella Bharani has a decent screentime and is a perfect fit. Madhumani also has a full-length role and has acted well. There are limited characters in this movie and the rest of the cast was adequate.

Mohankrishna Indraganti has done the story, dialogues and screenplay along with direction. He needs to be commended for his style of narration as it is very different from the routine, formulaic storytelling. He has to be praised for sticking to the genre and not adding any unnecessary scenes to commercialize the movie. Manisharma’s background score is subtle and the songs are melodious. The picturization is good too. P.G.Vinda’s cinematography is apt to the story and the narrative style. Editing is crisp with just over a two-hour runtime. Production values are decent and need to be commended for presenting to us a new-age fun-filled love story.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

You can watch this movie for its overall breezy entertainment and for Venella Kishore’s comic act.
