Verdict: This well-made thriller packs a punch.
After dilly dallying for a while, Nikhil Siddhartha’s Arjun Suravaram finally hits the screens amidst decent fanfare. Directed by TN Santosh, Arjun Suravaram is an official remake of Tamil Superhit movie Kanithan, where Lavanya Tripathi played the female lead. The rest of the cast includes Vennela Kishore, Tarun Arora, Posani Krishna Murali, Nagineedu, Vidyullekha Raman and Raja Ravindra in prominent roles. Music director Sam C.S. makes his debut in the Telugu movie industry and Suryaa has handled the camera department. Let’s see if it lives up to the original.
What’s Arjun Suravaram About:
Arjun Lenin Suravaram (Nikhil Siddhartha) works as a TV reporter for a Telugu news channel, TV99. The police arrests him after being framed in a scam involving educational loans. He gets released on bail and thus he sets off on a mission to trace the roots of this crime. He slowly realizes that there is a much bigger scam and the involved players are bigger than one could’ve imagined. How he comes out clean and brings the fraudsters to table forms the rest of the plot.
Nikhil Sidharth is at his usual best with full of energy. His role has ample scope for displaying varied emotions and he does it with ease. Arjun Suravaram adds up to his elite list of memorable movies like Ekkadiki Pothave Chinnavada, Karthikeya, Keshava and others. The whole movie revolves around his character and he was in all the scenes throughout the movie. Lavanya Tripathi is decent in her limited act and looks beautiful. Vennela Kishore was the pick among the rest of the cast and was extremely impressive in the role of a lawyer. He has excelled in emotional scenes as well. Satya, who plays the other sidekick to the hero provides some comic relief. Nagineedu and Pranitha as Arjun’s parents suit their role and as does Posani Krishna Murali who plays the father to Vennela Kishore. Vidhyullekha as maid servant is hilarious in the couple of scenes where she has a soft corner for Vennela Kishore.
TN Santosh, who directed the original, makes an impressive debut in Telugu industry with Arjun Suravaram. The theme he chose was novel and his narrative style brought in the much-needed unique flavour. The background score was terrific. Suryaa’s camera work is good and the production values are grand. The editing is crisp and to the point.
What Could Have Been Better:
Arjun Suravaram would have been a different ball game together had it been released in time. Nevertheless, though it got delayed due to unwarranted reasons, the movie doesn’t look outdated and is impressive as well.
Why You Should Watch:
Arjun Suravaram is an honest remake of the original and has an underlying message dedicated to the journalists and the media fraternity. It is also refreshing to see Nikhil back in action with full form. Overall, it makes for a decent watch this weekend.
