Chitralahari: Film Review – Finally Something Good For Sai Tej Fans

Verdict: Impressive dialogues make Chitralahari a must-watch.

Nenu Shailaja fame Kishore Tirumala is back with yet another love entertainer. Produced by the in-form production house Mythri Movie Makers, Chitralahari is supported by Devi Sri Prasad’s music and Karthik Ghattamaneni’s camera work. The film stars Sai Tej, Nivetha Thomas, and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead roles. Sai Tej has lately suffered a series of flops and is looking for the right break. Will Chitralahari break the jinx and bring him back to the path of success? Let’s analyze.

What’s Chitralahari About:

Though Vijay Krishna (Sai Tej) is intelligent, he has never been successful. After graduating as an engineer, he has an idea for an app in mind and approaches different companies with the concept. However, none of the companies come forward to collaborate with him in developing the app. Dejected, he turns to the only positive factor in his life – his girlfriend Lahari (Kalyani Priyadarshan). But due to Swecha’s (Nivetha Pethuraj) interference, the couple has differences, eventually leading to separation. Whether Vijay manages to win back his lost love and be successful in life forms the rest of Chitralahari.

What Works:

Sai Tej gets into the skin of his character and given his current professional streak, Vijay’s character helps him emote well. This is easily one of his best roles, in terms of looks and acting. Kalyani Priyadarshan is also decent as the innocent young girl who is always dependent on others in making her decisions. Nivetha Pethuraj excels in the role of an independent and practical woman. Sunil, who plays Vijay’s classmate, takes us back to the classic comedy characters that he portrayed at the start of his glooming career. Posani Krishna Murali is apt as Vijay’s father and the emotional connect between them works brilliantly. Venella Kishore is extremely hilarious as the typecast Tamil man settled in Mumbai.

The best part of Chitralahari is Kishore Tirumala’s dialogues. They are simple, yet very effective. Devi Sri Prasad’s album reminds us of some of the director’s earlier movies and the background score works well too. Karthik Ghattamaneni’s cinematography is decent. As usual, the production values of Mythri Movie Makers is up to the benchmark that they set earlier.

What Could’ve Been Better:

Some of the songs are placed randomly, which deter the narrative. While this could have been avoided, it does not take away from Sreekar Prasad’s sharp editing.

Why You Should Watch:

Chitralahari is an amalgamation of beautiful emotions with fantastic dialogues that connect with the audience, especially the youth. Finally, Sai Tej breaks the flop streak and comes back to the path of success with Chitralahari.
