It’s about the romance between a lower caste boy and a upper caste girl
Revanth (Naga Chaitanya), a young man with lofty goals, owns and operates a Zumba studio in Hyderabad. He is a Christian from Armoor in Telangana. Mounika (Sai Pallavi), an engineering graduate from the same village, travels to Hyderabad in search of employment. Her room is just next to Revanth’s Zumba studio. Despite being from the same village, they’ve never met because she is from a rich, high caste community. Narasimham (Rajeev Kanakala), her uncle, has a firm grip on their family and finances. She decides to stay in Hyderabad to avoid her uncle’s clutches and becomes a partner in Revanth’s Zumba facility. Naturally, they begin to develop feelings for one other and decide to marry.
The chemistry between the lead pair sparkles
Naga Chaitanya has done an outstanding job as Revanth. It’s clear that he made a sincere attempt to learn the dialect. This is probably his greatest performance till date. Sai Pallavi wins the hearts of the audience with her flawless dance abilities and subtle presentation of an emotionally packed role. She is absolutely amazing in the rain song. Eeswari Rao, who plays Chaitanya’s mother, is fantastic.
Hats off to director Sekhar Kammula
‘Love Story’ follows a series of films that tackle the issue of caste discrimination such as ‘Dorasani’, Uppena and ‘Sridevi Soda Center’. Yet Sekhar Kammula manages to approach the subject from a fresh perspective. His movie also touches upon another critical issue, that of sexual abuse.
WATCH OR NOT
The excellent performances and Sekhar Kammula’s deft handling of caste issues and sexual abuse make this film a must-watch.
