Written and directed by debutante Ashishor Solomon, Wild Dog features Nagarjuna, Dia Mirza, and Saiyami Kher in lead roles and is aptly supported by Atul Kulkarni, Ali Reza, Appaji Ambarisha Darbha, Avijit Dutt, and others. The music and background score are composed by S Thaman and the cinematography is handled by Kshanam and Goodachari fame Shaneil Deo. Bankrolled by S. Niranjan Reddy and K. Anvesh Reddy under Matinee Entertainments, the recently released trailer has certainly upped the expectations. While the movie was earlier reported to hit the OTT space directly, it was heartening to see the movie being released in cinemas. Billed to be made on real-time incidents, let us see what is in store for the audience watching Wild Dog in theatres.
Action drama with an interesting premise
Vijay Varma (Nagarjuna) is an NIA officer who was suspended earlier and is recalled to take up a high-profile case of nabbing the terrorist who planned bomb blasts at Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park in Hyderabad. While Vijay Varma takes up the mission and even traces the terrorists, things are not that easy as the connection gets established in Nepal. How Vijay Varma and his team of NIA agents succeed in nabbing the terrorists forms the core plot of Black Dog.
Nag and his wild dog team are impressive
Akkineni Nagarjuna leads the show and is super awesome in the role of Vijay Varma. He looks extremely fit as the NIA officer and does a great job in action sequences. His character is realistically portrayed, and he packs a punch. Ali Reza gets a meaty role and does complete justice to his role. Diya Mirza is pitch-perfect as Nag’s wife. Sayyami Kher enters in the latter half and makes her presence felt, especially in the action episodes. Atul Kulkarni, Appaji Ambarisha Darbha, and Avijit Dutt were impressive in their respective roles. The rest of the cast is apt.
Ashishor Solomon makes an impressive debut and action episodes need a special mention
Debutante Ashishor Solomon chose a realistic subject as his debut film and the premise is definitely interesting. While the initial half is focused on laying the setup, the action picks up in the latter half and raises the momentum towards the climax. The major USP of Wild Dog is the action episodes that are plenty in the second half. The climax is a huge plus where Nag crosses the border and takes up the baddies. Thaman excels in his background score. Shaneil Deo once again impresses with his camera work. Editing is crisp and production values from Matinee Entertainments are at their best.
WATCH OR NOT:
Wild Dog is a realistic thriller drama with an interesting premise and high-octane action episodes. The director stayed true to his subject and delivered a noteworthy movie. This certainly makes an interesting watch and is a feast for Akkineni fans.
