Nannu Dochukunduvate: Film Review – A Love Story Like Never Before

Verdict: Sudheer Babu Shines in his first attempt as a producer.

Nannu Dochukunduvate unveils Sudheer Babu as the producer, R. S. Naidu as the director and Nabha Natesh as the lead heroine in Telugu. Very few actors dare to turn producers and one such actor is Sudheer Babu. Impressed with R. S. Naidu’s work in short movies like Spandana, Sudheer Babu didn’t have an iota of doubt in his directorial capabilities and has confidently launched him as a director in his first production venture. Let’s see what’s in the offering for viewers watching Nannu Dochukunduvate.

What’s Nannu Dochukunduvate About:

Karthik (Sudheer Babu), an IT manager, is a tough nut to crack with his subordinates and his only aim is to settle in the US. Much to his dismay, Karthik’s dad  (Nassar), fixes his marriage with one of his relatives’ daughter. To escape this situation, Karthik lies to his dad that he is already in love with a girl named Siri. He hires a girl named Meghana (Nabha Natesh), a short film actress, to pretend to be his girlfriend for a few days. Karthik and his father get impressed with Meghana’s down-to-earth attitude and soft heart. As expected, Karthik and Meghana start liking each other without disclosing their feelings. Gradually, Karthik starts realizing that his professional career is at stake and starts distancing himself from Meghana. The rest of the movie is about how they realize their feelings and what they do about it.

What Works:

R. S. Naidu has espoused a restrained storytelling style in his debut directorial, where emotions and dialogues take the center stage. The writing has an in-depth exploration of love and is a pure cinematic delight. Sudheer Babu’s role in Nannu Dochukunduvate is neatly etched and has given one of his best performance till date. Nabha Natesh gets a strong role and comes up with an arresting performance. Nassar excels as a widowed father and Tulasi is adequate as Nabha’s mother. Anchor Varshini is decent in her act. The music has been composed by Ajaneesh B Loknath is good and complements the narration. Every song has a unique flavor and invokes a different feeling. The cinematography by Suresh Ragutu elevates the emotions to a larger degree. Chota K Prasad’s editing is taut.

What Could Have Been Better:

Though the film stays true to its genre, a few make-believe scenes could have been chopped off to make it a more convincing narrative. Nevertheless, it has all the emotions in galore that the common audience seeks.

Why You Should Watch:

Nannu Dochukunduvate is a cool and a breezy entertainer that lives up to the expectation. It is a fantastic beginning for Sudheer Babu Productions as they foray into the world of Telugu cinema.
