Verdict: This intriguing mystery thriller keeps you hooked.
Off late, one can notice a perceptible change in Sumanth’s choice of scripts. His recent movies like Malli Raava and Naruda Donoruda do not fit his regular genres of movies. Now he is back with yet another unique concept Subrahmanyapuram. While his other upcoming movie, Idham Jagath, is already touted as a unique concept in cinema, it’s Subrahmanyapuram that’s got everyone excited. Directed by debutant Santossh Jagarlapudi with Eesha Rebba playing the lead role opposite the actor, this mystery thriller is bankrolled by Beeram Sudhakar Reddy. Let’s see what’s in store for viewers watching Subrahmanyapuram.
What’s Subrahmanyapuram About:
Subrahmanyapuram is a mysterious village gripped by a series of suicides. Although he is an atheist, Karthik (Sumanth) does research about Gods and their temples. Hailing form Hyderabad, he lands up in Subrahmanyapuram to learn more about the Temple of Karthikeya. The people of the village believe that it is due to the wrath of this temple that the suicides are happening in their village. However, Karthik sees a different angle to it. How he unearths the mystery behind these deaths and discovers the real truth forms the rest of Subrahmanyapuram.
The best thing about Subrahmanyapuram is its storyline. It is intriguing and keeps the audience guessing till the very end. Debutant Santossh Jagarlapudi has emerged triumphant with his first movie and must be appreciated for not deviating from the actual plot. All the episodes in the second half and the pre-climax situations lead to a fantastic climax. Sekhar Chandra’s music and background score elevate the mystery thriller and Prathap’s camera work is laudable. The night sequences are also well captured. The editing work is decent, especially in the first half. Production values are grand and all the frames look great.
Sumanth has delivered yet another matured performance in Subrahmanyapuram. Eesha Rebba is also great in her part and Suresh as her father has a meatier role, which he plays to perfection. Sai Kumar is good in his short and important role.
What Could’ve Been Better:
The movie does not pack in the thrills right from the start. But once the mystery starts to unravel, there is no stopping you from being hooked to the screen until the very end of the movie. It’s also best if you do not compare the film with Nikhil’s past hit Karthikeya.
Why You Should Watch:
Subrahmanyapuram is an excellent suspense thriller that is both engaging and novel. Sumanth has once again proved that he is in for the content and not just the commercialization aspect of the movie. This is a must-watch for his fans as well as fans of the genre.
