Our Plans For *Pongal o Pongal* Are Probably More Exciting Than Yours

After what has been a truly unprecedented and challenging 2020 with Covid 19 wreaking havoc in the world,2021 promises to get off to a hopeful new start. It’s Pongal time in the south and that means some major kickass film premieres are in store for all Kollywood fans! Celebrate the onset of the harvest with the following films and they are huge!

Master – Cinema hall – January 13th

At last, after a long and impatient wait for Tamil fans, Thalapathy Vijay’s Master directed by Lokesh Kanakaraj will make its way into theatres on the 13th of January. Touted to be one of the most awaited blockbusters of the year, the film also stars a huge high profile cast featuring Vijay Sethupathy, Arjun Das, Shantanu Bhagyaraj with Malavika Mohanan and Andrea Jeremiah completing this start-studded lineup. Vijay is expected to play a college professor who will lock horns with Sethupathy’s antagonist character. The songs and the trailer has gone on to gain viral views and all there’s left to do is to flock to the theatres to witness the magic!

Eeswaran – releasing in theatres – January 14th

Silambarasan returns to the big screen in the hyped rural drama titled Eeshwaran which will release in theatres on the 14th of January. The film is directed by Susintheeran and will see Simbu in a new and fit action-oriented avatar. The trailer and the songs in trademark Simbu style are already creating waves online and fans are eager to throng to the theatres to watch the film.

Maara – Amazon Prime – January 8th

Madhavan makes his highly anticipated return to Kollywood with the Tamil remake of the much appreciated Dulquer Salman’s Malayalam film Charlie. The film is directed by Dilip Kumar and also has Shraddha Sainath playing the female lead. Maara will make a direct digital premiere on Amazon Prime on the 8th of January. The director Dilip Kumar has gone on record to state that this film will be more of an adaptation of the original story rather than a full-fledged remake. With Madhavan’s penchant for drama and romance, we can’t wait to see him sink his teeth into this role.

Bhoomi – Disney+ Hotstar – January 14th

The other exciting release for Pongal is Jayam Ravi’s Bhoomi which will premiere on Disney Hotstar. It is directed by R Lakshmanan with Nidhe Agarwal in the female lead. This director-actor duo has already worked together in Thani Oruvan and Bogan. Bhoomi will feature Jayam Ravi in the role of a scientist who returns to his hometown village to solve the grave issues that the people are facing. This is the 25th outing for the actor in films and is expected to be a riveting social drama.

That’s a coveted lineup indeed for Pongal! Make sure to follow all safety protocols when visiting theatres and update those online subscriptions as well.
