In Chennai, a shipment containing drugs goes missing. Santhanam (Vijay Sethupathi), the drug baron for whom the shipment is intended, is furious. An undercover cop named Amar (Fahadh Faasil) is brought in to help solve the case. In the course of his research, Amar discovers that the robbery and a string of deaths by a masked man are tied to a drunkard named Karnan (Kamal Haasan).
A stunning comeback
Kamal Haasan makes a long-awaited comeback, and he is fantastic in this action role. He packs a punch and fans will adore him in this new guise. Vijay Sethupathi is well cast as a mafia don. He’s got the expressions, the menacing body language, the presence. His showdown with Amar and Karnan is fantastic. Fahadh Faasil is given a substantial role in which he excels. He’s both emotional as well as restrained.
There was much speculation about how director Lokesh Kanagaraj would manage three major celebrities. In the film, he gives each equal weight and elicits strong performances. He also does an excellent job of connecting Vikram’s story to his previous film ‘Kaithi’ (2019). The icing on the cake is Suriya’s entry, which hints at a subsequent film.
Anirudh’s music is excellent, as is the camerawork portraying the film’s somber tone. The dialogue is well-written, and special mention should be made of the action, which is both stylish and realistic.
