Featuring Karthikeya Gummakonda and Lavanya Tripati in lead roles, Chaavu Kaburu Challaga is written and directed by Pegallapati Koushik. The music and background score are composed by Jakes Bejoy and the cinematography is handled by Karm Chawla. Also featuring Aamani, Murali Sharma, Srikanth Iyengar, Rajitha, Achnta Mahesh, Bhadram, and Prabhu in prominent roles, the movie is bankrolled by Bunny Vasu under GA2 Pictures. The theatrical trailers and pre-release publicity material has projected the movie as a realistic love drama with author-backed characters. Let us see what the movie has to offer for viewers watching it in cinemas.
An unconventional plot-line
Basthi Balarju (Karthikeya Gummakonda) is a hearse driver who transports dead bodies in his van to cemeteries. One of the bodies he transports is by a person named Peter, Mallika’s (Lavanya Tripati) husband. He instantly falls in love with her when he sees her at the graveyard mourning her husband’s death. He keeps following her wherever she goes asking her to accept his love. Mallika files a complaint against Balaraju after getting vexed. Basthi Balaraju’s mother Gangamma (Aamani) enters his life and induces a change in him. The rest of the movie showcases the other side of Balaraju and what eventually happened to his love story.
Karthikeya delivers an intense and mature performance, Lavanya and Aamani are at their usual best
While the plot is unconventional, it requires ample talent to convince the audience. This is exactly what happened with Chaavu Kaburu Challaga. Karthikeya has given a riveting performance as Basthi Balaraju and it really doesn’t look odd when he falls for a widow who just lost her husband. He has evolved a lot as an actor over the years since his debut movie RX100 and has shown ease in dances and other emotions. Lavanya Tripati is seen in a de-glam role and has given her best. Aamani as Gangamma is a surprise package and has delivered a top-notch act. The rest of the actors were good in their respective roles.
Koushik get everything right in his debut directorial
To make a debut with an unconventional storyline takes guts and shows confidence in convincing everyone involved in the making of the movie. While the plot is off-beat, Koushik has intelligently infused typical characterizations to make it conventional. The first half is very impressive when compared to the latter half. Jakes Bejoy’s music and background score raise the bar and Karm Chawla’s cinematography is impressive. Satya’s editing is crisp and the production values of GA2 Pictures are at their usual best.
