Written and directed by debutante Bucchi Babu Sana, a protégé of ace director B Sukumar, Uppena marks the debut of Krithi Shetty and Panjaa Vaishnav Tej, brother of Supreme hero Sai Dharam Tej. Bankrolled jointly by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, the pre-release publicity material has done wonders for everyone involved in the working of Uppena.
Thanks to the song promos of Nee Kannu Neeli Samudram, Krithi Shetty has already become a sensation and is one of the busiest stars in Tollywood now. She is cast opposite Nani for Shyam Singha Roy. If the grapevine has to be believed, she is in talks for Gopichand starrer Alivelu Venkataramana in the direction of Teja, Surya Hari combination movie, a movie with Nithiin and one more with Naga Shaurya. This shows the kind of wonders Uppena did much before its release.
Not just Krithi Shetty, hero Panja Vaishnav Tej completed the shoot of another movie in the direction of Krish which features Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead. A couple of more projects are in the discussion stage and will be finalized soon.
Uppena was originally supposed to release in theatres on April 2. However, it could not be released due to lockdown. While most of the movies that were ready opted for OTT release, the makers of Uppena are quite adamant to have a theatrical release. This shows the confidence the team has towards its content.
One more exciting update is that the post-theatrical rights were bagged by Netflix for a hefty price. As per the inside sources, it is believed that there would be a 30- day window before digital release. Now that the theatres have opened with restrictions, the Uppena team is looking for the right time to release their movie in theatres for the public.
Also featuring Vijay Sethupathi in a prominent role, this actor has bought the Tamil remake rights much before its release. In recent times, Uppena is one movie that garnered tremendous buzz and we will have to wait for some more time for the people’s verdict.
