Top 7 Films of Denzel Washington

By Dharm Patel28 December, 2016 3 min read

Turning 62 today, is Denzel Washington. Damn, 62 already? The actor, director, producer has received two Academy Awardsthree Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award as well. Denzel was named after his father Denzel, who in turn was named after the doctor who delivered him, Dr. Denzel. Washington is one of only two African American actors to ever win an Academy Award for Best Actor; and is also the first African American actor to win two Academy Awards. Another distinction he has, albeit strange, is his crooked pinky finger, which remained crooked for the longest time, but is now finally fixed. Today, on his birthday, let's take a look at his top 7 films.

Glory (1989)
Denzel stars in this film about one of the first military units of the Union Army during the American Civil War to be made up entirely of African-American men (except for its officers).

Training Day (2001)
The story follows two LAPD narcotics officers, where Denzel plays the corrupt one, over a 24-hour period in the gang-ridden neighborhoods of the LAPD Rampart Division and South Central Los Angeles.

Flight (2012)
An airline pilot played by Washington miraculously crash-lands his plane after it suffers an in-flight mechanical failure, saving nearly everyone on board. He is hailed a hero, but only for a short while.

Remember The Titans (2000)
The film is based on the true story of African-American coach Herman Boone, played by Washington, and his attempt to integrate the T. C. Williams High School football team in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1971.

The Mighty Quinn (1989)
In the film, Washington plays Xavier Quinn, a police chief who tries to help his childhood friend after he becomes a murder suspect.

Malcolm X (1992)
Washington plays the titular role in this epic biographical drama film about the Afro-American activist Malcolm X.

Inside Man (2006)
The film is about an elaborate bank heist on Wall Street over a 24-hour period, with Denzel starring as Detective Keith Frazier, the NYPD's hostage negotiator.
