Roohi and More Upcoming Horror Comedies You Need To Watch Out For

After the success of Stree (2018), Bollywood is set to roll out more movies in the ‘horror comedy’ genre. While the Rajkummar Rao starrer is rumored to get not just one but two sequels, more successful horror comedies from the past are also set to release sequels in 2021 and 2022. While Laxmii (2020) may have failed to win the audience’s hearts last year, we are more than hopeful for these upcoming horror comedies in Bollywood:

It was recently announced that the Stree director Amar Kaushik will be directing yet another horror comedy, which will reunite him with actor Abhishek Banerjee. The film is expected to release on April 14, 2022 and will also star Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in the lead, with Deepak Dobriyal playing a supporting character. Dhawan’s character appears as a werewolf in the teaser poster, which he shared on Twitter.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Bhushan Kumar, this horror comedy serves as a standalone sequel to Priyadarshan’s cult film Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), which starred Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in titular roles. Kartik Aaryan takes the lead in this one, alongside Kiara Advani and Tabu, while Rajpal Yadav returns in a prominent supporting role. The movie is all set to hit theatres this year on November 19.

Phone Bhoot

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh who is famous for directing the controversial and highly successful Amazon Prime Video series ‘Mirzapur’, this horror comedy stars Katrina Kaif, Ishaan Khattar, and Siddhant Chaturvedi in leading roles. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have produced the film, whose release date is still unknown but expected to hit the big screens later this year or early next year.

Go Goa Gone 2

Sequel to India’s first ‘zom-com’ film Go Goa Gone (2013), this horror comedy brings back the hilarious trio of Vir Das, Kunal Khemu, and Anand Tiwari along with Saif Ali Khan. While the release date of the film has not yet been announced, it is rumored that Radhika Madan has joined the cast for the sequel.

Bhoot Police

Directed by Pavan Kirpalani (director of Ragini MMS and Phobia) and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri, this horror comedy stars Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Yami Gautam and Javed Jaffrey in prominent roles. The film is all set to release this year on September 10.

Releasing next week on March 11, this horror comedy is produced by Dinesh Vijan and writeen and directed by Hardik Mehta (co-writer of Trapped and Paataal Lok, writer and director of Kaamyaab). It stars Janhvi Kapoor in the lead as a woman named Roohi with a scary alter-ego named Afza. Two small-town boys, played by Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma, fall in love with Roohi and Afza respectively. What follows is a crazy journey where the one who is madly in love with Roohi is trying to get rid of Afza and the one who is madly in love with Afza wants to marry her.
