It would be an understatement to say that India’s first test against Australia at Adelaide was a forgettable one. The visitors had enjoyed a good first two days, having secured a first innings lead of just over 50 on the back of gritty batting and outstanding bowling. However no one could have anticipated what ensued on the morning of the third day. The Australian fast bowlers went on a rampage and bundled India out for a mere 36, their lowest ever total in test cricket. There was no coming back from here. Australia then chased down the target of 90 without much difficulty to win the game.
Indian fans were shell-shocked at this disastrous performance. Here’s how folks reacted on Twitter.

Wow!! What a bowling display that was from Pat Cummins & Josh Hazlewood here in Adelaide. Just outstanding. Have to feel for the Indian batsman as never saw that coming – it was one of those days where the batsman nicked everything & didn’t play and miss at all ! Unbelievable…

India 36 all-out
– Lowest total for India
– Lowest total in the current century for any team
– Only the second time in history all 11 batsmen have failed to reach double figures in an innings#AUSvsIND

Shami 1 (retd hurt)
No batsman reached double figures!
India’s bowling has been top class but the batting has consistently let us down on away tours

And the worst part is… you cannot even be angry at that. Not like they have been rash shots.
This is simply unplayable stuff from Australian bowlers. #AusvInd

36 will no doubt be looked at in isolation & should be too, but here’s India’s totals in last 3 Tests (2 in NZ) when the ball has moved around – 165, 191, 242, 124,244,36. Clearly India needs to improve its defensive skills. Easier said than done in today’s environment.

India collapse to 36 runs in the first test. This is the testimony of ‘how mediocre test team we are on foreign soils’
Selection on the basis of IPL is funny. I won’t blame @imVkohli for the lowest score, others have to step up.#INDvsAUSTest #viratkholi
