Actor Benedict Cumberbatch was a popular fan pick to play the live action Grand Admiral Thrawn on season three of The Mandalorian. However, says he has no interest in taking on the role. When the actor was told that he would need to spend hours in a makeup chair for the character’s blue skin, he had this to say:
No no, seriously, I have precious time with my children and I think sitting in a makeup chair and being painted blue, and the amount of time it would take to do that and then take it off at the end of the day might just… it’s not the right time in my life for that.
While this outcome might be disappointing for fans of the character and the actor, Cumberbatch’s reaction is understandable. The makeup and prosthetics involved in transforming into the character, both before and after shooting sessions would definitely be a grueling and time-consuming process. Not to mention Cumberbatch is already busy with his role as Dr. Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
