It’s a clean sweep for Scam 1992 at BookMyShow Buzz’s Best of 2020 polls! After the SonyLIV show was chosen the best web series of 2020 by our readers, its protagonists Pratik Gandhi and Shreya Dhanwanthary have been voted the best performers of the year.
We conducted two readers’ polls for best performances in a web series, for male and female performances respectively. The nominations for both came from web series that released between January 1 and December 17, 2020. The best male performance poll saw a total of 2,068 votes. Pratik Gandhi emerged the winner for his work in Scam 1992, followed by Divyendu Sharma for Mirzapur 2. Here’s a look at who finished in the top five.
Other nominees in the best male performances list included Arshad Warsi for Asur, Bobby Deol for Aashram, Kay Kay Menon for Special Ops, Abhishek Bachchan and Amit Sadh for Breathe: Into The Shadows, Jimmy Sheirgill for Your Honor and Vir Das for Hasmukh among others.
The poll for the best female performance saw an unprecedented response, registering an incredible 46,343 votes. The battle for the top spot was largely between two of our nominees, Scam 1992‘s Shreya Dhanwanthary and Mirzapur 2’s Shweta Tripathi. Both actors kept overtaking the other during the course of voting before the former finally bested the latter with a comfortable lead. Here’s who finished in the top five.
Among others, the nominees in this category comprised Aaditi Pohankar for She and Aashram, Swara Bhasker for Flesh, Sumukhi Suresh for Pushpavalli, Lara Dutta and Rinku Rajguru for Hundred and Karisma Kapoor for Mentalhood.
Scam 1992 is a biographical drama that charts the rapid rise and steep fall of infamous stockbroker Harshad Mehta, brought to life by Pratik Gandhi. Shreya Dhanwanthary plays a young Sucheta Dalal, the financial journalist who unearthed the can of worms hidden behind Mehta’s empire. The results of our public polls put the SonyLIV show as the undisputed fan favourite of 2020.
