The past year was, unlike for almost everything else, a remarkably good one for the OTT space. As we spent most of our days indoors, streaming platforms upped their game and churned out quality content to meet our entertainment needs. As 2020 came to an end, we at BookMyShow Buzz decided to let our readers pick the best web series of the year via a public poll. Rather unsurprisingly, it was SonyLIV’s Scam 1992 that topped the chart.
The readers’ poll contained ten Indian web series that released between January 1 and December 17, 2020. A total of 1,983 votes were received of which Scam 1992 emerged the clear winner, sitting comfortably ahead of Voot’s Asur. Here’s a look at the top five.
Among the other nominees were Amazon’s Panchayat, MX Player’s Aashram, Disney+ Hotstar’s Aarya, SonyLIV’s Undekhi and Voot’s The Gone Game.
Helmed by acclaimed director Hansal Mehta and based on Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu’s book The Scam, Scam 1992 is a biographical drama that charts the rapid rise and steep fall of infamous stock broker Harshad Mehta, the man credited with pulling off the largest financial scam in India’s history. The show enjoyed great reception from critics and the audience alike. Read our review here.
