Have you ever wondered what would happen if Pride and Prejudice had torrid Regency-era sex with Gossip Girl? The end result is American producer Shonda Rime’s Netflix Christmas gift that keeps on giving – Bridgerton. Set in 1800s England, this period drama, based on Julia Quinn’s eponymous series of novels, offers romance, a mysterious gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown (voiced by the delightful Julie Andrews), high society politics and tons of provocative sex.
And while these are reasons enough to watch the show, if Twitter is to believed, the sole reason is British actor Regé-Jean Page. The actor essays the role of Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, one of London’s most eligible bachelors who catches the eyes and affections of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor). Simon Basset’s steaminess has got Twitterati all hot and bothered, and we have proof.
I’m watching #Bridgerton for the plot.
