The third season of Karate Kid spinoff series Cobra Kai will be released on Netflix Saturday, January 1, a week earlier than the initial announcement. The show started life as an exclusive series for YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium), but was acquired by Netflix after its first two seasons released. Season three will be the first season made with the show under the Netflix banner, but the change in ownership doesn’t seem to have changed much. The trailer still drips with martial arts moves and ’80s nostalgia.
At the end of Cobra Kai season two, events took a turn for the worse with sensei Johnny Lawrence and his student Miguel Diaz. Johnny’s former sensei, John Kreese, wrenched control of the Cobra Kai dojo from Johnny, while Miguel was left badly injured following a fight at school. From the trailer, Cobra Kai season three will focus on Johnny helping Miguel through his recovery while soul-searching on whether he is worthy of being a sensei. Meanwhile, good guy protagonist of the original films Daniel LaRusso takes a trip to Okinawa, no doubt with the intention of contemplating his own path at the birthplace of his sensei Mr Miyagi.
