Pankaj Tripathi is ruling OTT today. Be it Sacred Games‘ Guruji or Mirzapur‘s Kaleen Bhaiya, the immensely talented actor has essayed some of the most remarkable characters in the web series space in recent times. He is now set to reprise another of his iconic roles, that of lawyer Madhav Mishra, as Disney+ Hotstar gears up for the second season of its hit courtroom drama Criminal Justice.
Adapted from the eponymous British TV series by Peter Moffat, season one of Criminal Justice revolves around Aditya Sharma (Vikrant Massey), a cab driver who indulges in a one-night stand with one of his passengers, only to find her murdered the next morning. Naturally he is the prime suspect and is sentenced to life imprisonment. Madhav Mishra, a small time lawyer, intuitively believes that Aditya is innocent. He along with fellow lawyer Nikhat Hussain (Anupriya Goenka) decide to pursue the matter further, and their investigation opens up a can of worms. The season ends with Aditya being acquitted of all charges.
Earlier this week, Pankaj Tripathi shared this video on social media to tell the world that Madhav Mishra is set to return.

Mishra’s character was an instant hit with the viewers in the first season. Pankaj Tripathi was in his element, displaying his trademark wry humour and witty jibes.
The second season is titled Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors. The trailer, which dropped yesterday, indicates that the new season is a fresh story. Itt will focus on Mishra, who is now married and hunting for his next big case. Kirti Kulhari joins the cast as Anu Chandra, a woman who has stabbed her husband to death. For some mysterious reason, lawyers aren’t willing to take up her case, which is where Madhav Mishra steps in. Anupriya Goenka also returns as Nikhat Hussain for the new season.
Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors streams on Disney+ Hotstar from Thursday, December 24.
