New details for Dexter season nine tease what happened to Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) after the show’s infamously bad series finale. Early in its run in 2006, Dexter became the most popular show on television. The story of a blood splatter analyst at Miami PD living a secret life as a serial killer earned a massive following and was nominated for several Emmys. However, the series finale tarnished that reputation.
According to a report, the new episodes are set ten years after the finale, continuing Dexter’s story after he fled Miami during a hurricane and started a new life as a lumberjack in Oregon. More specifically, the article states that the new season has Dexter “living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami”. This confirms that Dexter continues to evade capture by the authorities. However, the fact that it reportedly takes place “a world away from Miami” could refer to the United States or even another country entirely. Dexter’s son, Harrison, and love interest Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski) ran away to Argentina at the end of the series. It’s possible the benevolent killer joined his family.
Production for the show is set to begin early next year for a planned late 2021 release.
