A Disney+ National Treasure TV series with the movie’s original writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley has been given the green light. Not much is known about the series other than that it will follow a new lead character named Jess Morales, a character of Latin origin. The series is based on the Disney movies starring Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates, a treasure hunter who gets involved in conspiracies and mishaps related to priceless artifacts from US history. The first National Treasure film was released in 2004. The sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was out in 2007. Despite plans for another movie, a third was never made due to the filmmakers struggling to turn the property into a franchise.
It would great to see Cage’s character return as a sort of mentor figure to the new treasure hunters, adding a cheesy over-the-top element to the show.
