Recent set photos from Hawkeye show Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton aka Hawkeye with a hearing aid. Phase four of the Marvel Universe will move the character from the second string to a starring role in the Disney+ Hotstar Hawkeye series, which will also introduce the archer’s replacement Kate Bishop. The show finally began production recently and also confirmed that actress Hailee Steinfeld will play the successor to MCU’s Hawkeye.
Hawkeye‘s first day of production in Brooklyn gave us new set photos. There’s a blurry photo of Steinfeld on the set along with a set of higher quality photos which surfaced online. Not only do these photos confirm Steinfeld will be the next Hawkeye, but also thanks to the higher quality images, we see the current Hawkeye’s hearing aid.

Hawkeye’s hearing aid is more confirmation that the TV series will be based heavily on the Matt Fraction Hawkeye (2012) comics. The comic run is regarded as one of the best Hawkeye stories and the character’s hearing loss is a major part of his arc. After being stabbed in the ears, Hawkeye struggles to accept his situation, initially refusing to learn to sign or read lips and turning to alcohol to cope with his disability.
