How Much Do We Love ‘WandaVision’? Let’s Count The Ways

With WandaVision having aired its final episode over the weekend, here are some of our thoughts on this weird and wonderfully experimental series by Marvel.

It’s surprisingly deep

Who knew Marvel could pull off a tragic love story? No less one about the connection between a witch and a biomechanical synthezoid who find each other amidst the insanity of the Marvel multiverse. WandaVision functions brilliantly as not only an epic romance, but also a thrilling superhero action series. It’s the story of two misfits who share a deep bond and experience happiness and loss together set against the backdrop of the warm familiar tropes of TV comedies.

So much set-up

WandaVision pulls a ton of weight in setting up the future Marvel movies. It does this in its in-universe commercials as well as the traditional Marvel post-credits scenes.

Elizabeth Olsen

It’s so strange that this is a show that riffs on classic sitcoms starring the sister of the Olsen Twins of Full House fame. This show wouldn’t be what it is without the incredible performance of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s younger sister, Elizabeth.

The fake-outs

WandaVision is a show filled with misdirection. The Quicksilver red herring that had fans blowing up the internet is just one of the many ways that the show confounded expectations. It would be difficult to break down the ways in which the show hoodwinked the audience without massive spoilers. All you need to know is that the build-up of expectations followed by the rug being pulled from under you made for a fun ride.
