We’re Expecting Second Seasons Of These Hit Indian Shows In 2021

Just like 2020, 2021 too promises to be a great year for OTT content. What’s better is that we’re likely to get new seasons of a lot of our favourite series this year. Here’s a look at some shows that have second seasons lined up.

‘The Family Man’

The Family Man is easily one of the most popular Indian web series there is. The Manoj Bajpayee-starrer was voted the best Indian web series in a public poll conducted by BookMyShow Buzz last year. Season two was originally set to hit our screens on February 12, before the makers and Amazon decided to postpone its release indefinitely. The series centers around Srikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee) who leads a double life. To his wife and kids, he is a middle-class, overworked government employee. But in reality he is a world class spy who works towards countering terror threats on India. The first season ended on a cliffhanger with Srikant scrambling to save Delhi from a vicious chemical attack. Read our review of season one here.

‘Aarya’

Sushmita Sen made her digital debut with Disney+ Hotstar’s crime drama last year which was received splendidly. In an Instagram live session last year, Sen, along with the show’s creator Ram Madhvani, the director of the series, announced the imminent arrival of season two. Madhvani said, “She (Sen) is going to be wearing a cape this time and she is going to be in leather. In season two, like season one, she will be paying the price of what she wants.” While an exact release date hasn’t been declared yet, the new season can be drop sometime this year. ‘Asur: Welcome To Your Dark Side’

Voot’s dark crime thriller was one of the most underrated shows of 2020. The first season of Asur revolves around Arshad Warsi, Barun Sobti and the CBI forensics team on a mission to nab a serial killer whose actions seemed to be driven by Indian mythology. As per reports, Warsi believes that the shooting for season two should commence in March 2021 and the show should ideally release by the end of the year.

‘Delhi Crime’

Delhi Crime (pictured above), Netflix’s police procedural on the 2012 Delhi gang rape, became the first Indian show to win an International Emmy. The new season will be based on a new crime setting, possibly another real-life case.

‘Made In Heaven’

Set against the backdrop of the big fat Indian wedding, this critically acclaimed drama by Amazon explores the various prejudices, superstitions and unsavoury practices surrounding weddings in this country, from dowry to the ostracisation of manglik women. The show’s lead actor Sobhita Dhulipala recently took to social media to share a note from the producers of the show, officially announcing season two. We can’t wait!

‘Panchayat’

TVF’s Panchayat is a rare lighthearted series that shines among the sea of crime thrillers that hit OTT in 2020. The drama revolves around a fresh graduate who takes up an unglamorous government job in a remote village. The slice-of-life drama presents a satirical take on rural India and its problems. Jitendra Kumar, the lead actor on the show, was reported saying that the writing and the story line-up for the new season was already underway. The show might premiere by mid 2021.
