Last week, The Punisher made headlines after the deadly riot at the US Capitol. Several people who stormed the building were sporting the character’s skull logo. Marvel is now under pressure to remove the logo, with some saying the character himself should be shelved as well. Jon Bernthal, the last actor to play the Punisher, expressed his opinion on the matter, retweeting piece of fan art celebrating his character.
I’m with you. Beautiful work. These people are misguided, lost, and afraid. They have nothing to do with what Frank stands for or is about. Big love. J. https://t.co/Q4GpaGW3ek

This isn’t the first time the Punisher logo has drawn controversy. The logo was co-opted by police unions, racists and gun nuts in the midst of the Black Lives Matter protests. At the time, Marvel said it was taking the matter seriously. Punisher co-creator Gerry Conway spoke out as well, starting a campaign in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
