The Kapoor Klan Gets Kozy On The Latest Episode Of ‘Koffee With Karan’ 7

What is there to say about Karan Johar‘s trademark opening routine that we haven’t said before? As usual, Johar long-jumps from one topic to another to introduce his guests of the week. Thankfully, this week his speech was more quip than essay. Probably because Sonam Kapoor Ahuja was sick and tired of standing in the wings with her cousin, Arjun Kapoor. Over the years, the Kapoors have made dropping in on ‘Koffee With Karan’ a ritual. Kareena Kapoor Khan played it safe on the kouch just last week. But Sonam has always been a loose canon and we hoped and prayed, that she had some revelations up her sleeve.

Sonam, tumsa na hoga koi

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is known for being unfiltered. After this episode, we can see why. After ‘The Zoya Factor’ in 2019, Sonam took a break from showbiz, which may explain why she’s so clued out. She’s stuck in 2016. During the rapid-fire round, she wondered why Ranveer and Ranbir weren’t part of certain lists. When Karan asked her whose Instagram page she would give the “thirst-trap” award, she said Hrithik Roshan. When asked which actress she believes is underrated, she answered Bhumi Pednekar and said, “Kriti, Kiara. All these girls.”

It’s just incredibly funny how absolutely blasé Sonam is and how much she just does not care. Even when she’s trying to be helpful, she ends up saying something absolutely off-base. She gets the name of the ‘Ek Villain Returns‘ director wrong, she says that Ranbir’s upcoming film, ‘Brahmastra‘ is called Shiva No. 1 (comedy gold) and mistakes Kiara Advani for Kriti Sanon. The nonchalance with which she pulls these comments off is quite something. Somewhere along the episode, you’ll realise that unlike Kareena, Sonam can neither lie, nor can she pretend. Which makes her a very refreshing patron of ‘Koffee With Karan’. It has to be noted though, that maybe she’s so fun because she’s not as invested in her image anymore. Maybe she’s along for the ride now, much like we are. Either ways, she’s given us a fun episode that is memorable in more ways than one.

Arjun gives a cookie-cutter performance

While Sonam was firing shots by his side, Arjun was the consummate professional. He gave picture-perfect answers (essays) and mature responses. Blushed when he had to, laughed when he had to. Asked Karan to cast him in a Dharma film in exchange for the hamper. He was just super gracious. He got up close and personal about his body image issues, explained how important his relationship is to him. He played the role of a typical B-Town celeb. But we could tell, he was quite happy that Sonam was, in his words, a mess. No wonder he won the rapid-fire round and the game round. Sonam was there to run amok on set and brew some drama. He was positively angelic in comparison. Surely, he deserves to be a Dharma lead soon? Guess we’ll find out soon if his efforts paid off.

A new episode of ‘Koffee with Karan’ airs every Thursday on Disney+ Hotstar. Check out our recaps of episodes one, two, three, four and five.
